Our Services
Books
Over 45,000 books are available at the library! These include outstanding fiction as well as non-fiction materials in both the adult and children’s area. In addition, we have a collection of reference materials offering the most up-to-date information.
Geneology
A genealogy collection is available for use. Microfilm copies of census records can be ordered on loan for a small fee. Old Sherman County newspapaers are available on Microfilm and CD’s
Large Print
A collection of large print books is available for anyone needing or desiring book print larger than normal. Romance, mystery, western, fiction and non-fiction titles are available!
Online Services
- To connect:

From the main site, click “online catalog”
Log In with your Library Card ID # and begin Searching.
- First time using our new system:
Use “userpass” in the password box to enter.
The system will then ask you to supply a permanent password. This is your personal password.
Enter your new password twice and click “Go”
- Repeat user:
Your Goodland Library card number and your personal password that you installed in your first visit.
Once you log in you may search the card catalog of our library, Kansas Main Catalog and others by checking the boxes. It will search all data bases that are marked and list the results.
- Your Account:
You may go into your account by clicking on the Patron menu button. Then “My Account” with a pop down menu to choose from.
- Check Status or Renew Books:
Within our Online Catalog
Click “My Circulation Status” This will list books you have checked out.
You may renew twice, then the item must be returned to the library.
You may unmark any of the items by clicking on the green check mark in the item’s box.
You MUST click on the “submit” button in the orange box at the top of the window for items to be renewed.
No green check mark? The item is either been renewed twice or is on reserve for someone else.
- Reserve Items:
When you search and find an item, you may place it on reserve. Click on the title in blue and a window will pop up. In the middle of the bray bar across the tope of window there is “Reserve Title”. Select this option and a new window will pop up. You MUST select the “Submit” button at the tope and the book will then be reserved for you.
If you have items on reserve, you may check this list by scrolling to the bottom of the “MyCirculation Status” window and clicking the blue “Reserved Items”
If the item is available, you may pick the item up at the Circulation Desk after 2PM the following business day. We will only hold these at the Circulation Desk for 7 days.
If the item is checked out, you will then be added to the reserve list and we will email you or call you when that item is available.
Registration
- Obtain a Library Card:
- Stop into the Library and complete in card form
- Online: Complete the online form and submit it. Your card will be ready for you to pick up at the Library.

Spanish Books
We have a Collection from Childrens to adults of books in spanish!
Borrowing Library Material
All books and library materials are checked out for a period of two weeks.
Any item circulated for two weeks may be renew once.

InterLibrary Loan Service
The Goodland Library is connected to state-wide borrowing service. Service million volumes are available to our patrons under the cooperative program. If you need a book we do not own, we can usually borrow it for you from another library in a short time.
Non-Print
The library has a growing collection of books on Audio Cassette & CD, as well as videos and DVD’s. They may be checked out for a two week period. Videos and DVD’s require a $5.00 deposit.
Overdue/Lost Fees and Charges
Borrowers are responsible for materials checked out on their card. As others may be waiting for the item, we ask that materials be returned on time. As a courtesy we will remind you of overdue items.
Reserving Items
Talking Books
For the Blind or physically challenged, talking books are now on deposit in the library and more maybe ordered through the facility. There is no charge for this service. Staff will be happy to assist anyone in using our Talking Book Service.
Fax and Phototcopy Services
Fax Service:
The Goodland Library can provide FAX service for patrons. Material will be sent or received for a charge.
$1.00 for 1st page.
$.50 per page thereafter
Photocopy Service:
The library has a photocopier available for your use. Materials may be copied for a donation fee.
$.10 per page – Letter size
$.15 per page – Legal size
Internet Access
We have 11 computers available for patron access to the internet free of charge!
There will be a fee for information printed from the Internet.
Users must comply with the library policy relating to use of the computer and Internet.
Wireless access also available.
NW KS Library Rotating System
Several hundred books: adult, juvenile, large print, audios, CD’s, video’s and DVD’s are made available to check out every two months in addition to the regular library collection!
Reference Service
Services for the Housebound
For those persons in Goodland who are unable to come to the library due to physical disabilities, we can send materials to them! This includes homebound and those in institutions.

Chrome Book Computers
We have purchased 2 Chrome books with money from Sherman County Community Foundation “Match Day” money! These may be checked out for in library use only.
